This fast starts on Mondays of the month of Kartiga and is followed every Monday thereafter. Soman Chandra, who had lost his light due to the curse, continued this fast and attained the state of wear and tear. He also got the privilege of adorning the Tirumudi of the Lord as the crescent moon.
It is known as Somavara Vratam which is followed by Soman and blessed. Lord Chandrasekaran is called Santimauli because he warms the moon.
In this fast, one should visit Shiva temple in the morning and evening without eating during the day. He should give alms as much as he can. Fast should be completed by eating at night. Visiting Shivalayam together with husband and wife will bring great results.
