This fast is observed every month on the Thirteenth day from the full moon and new moon on Thiryodasi. However, Sanipradhosam on Saturdays is considered special.

Those who perform this fast start from Varapirai Sanipradhosam which falls in the months of Chitrai, Vaikasi, Aippasi and Karthikai. Pradhosha period is the time between 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm.

Those who perform this fast take a dip in the morning to pay their eternal debts and worship Shiva. They chant the name of the Lord during the day. They fast during the day without eating food or drinking water.

In the evening they participate in the rituals held in the temple and then complete the fast after having a meal.

By following this fast, the sins of life will be removed and one will get well-being. Intelligence will improve. Memory increases. Debt, poverty, disease, untimely death, fear, shame, death agony are removed.
